Today we are celebrating!

A significant transformation in the 6th district from eight years ago. When I began serving as your representative in 2016, our community faced daunting challenges: our youth lacked essential resources, our parks were neglected, and crime rates were alarmingly high. I sought your trust and pledged to foster safer neighborhoods, rejuvenate our public spaces, and enhance local employment opportunities to fortify our district. With your support, I have diligently fulfilled every commitment made over the past eight years.
We are the second-fastest growing district in Wilmington, and I’m excited to keep this incredible momentum going!

Councilwoman Yolanda McCoy Brought DMV Services to Wilmington, Making a Difference for Residents

Councilwoman Yolanda McCoy took the initiative to bring DMV services directly to the residents of Wilmington. By coordinating with the DMV, she ensured that a mobile station was set up to assist the community every Tuesday from August 1st to October 31st. This service was conveniently located at the DART building on Lower Beech St, making it easier for residents to access essential DMV services without having to travel far.

My Achievements thus far…

I pledged to foster partnerships to increase housing in our district, and I am proud to report that we've seen 21 new homes built or rehabilitated, with another 35 in progress this year. This is a promise I have successfully delivered on.

Housing

We know that the best crime prevention strategies include economic stability, improved infrastructure, and safe alternatives for our youth. Over the past eight years, I have secured resources to enhance street lighting and walkways, expanded our Block Captain Program, and assisted with the opening of MSK Community Center in 2023. You trusted me to put these pieces in place, and I did.

Crime Prevention

Creating jobs was a top priority. I worked diligently to ensure that Rainbow of Grace hired local district members to keep Hedgeville and Browntown litter-free. This is yet another promise I have delivered on.

Local Hire

My commitment to revitalizing our public spaces has beautified our neighborhood and instilled pride in our youth. Koscuiszko Park, Eddie Michaels Park, Pulaski Triangle, and Brown Park have all been completely renovated. Additionally, over $1 million has been raised to begin work on Canby Park. Over the past eight years, I have tirelessly raised funds and secured resources to transform our parks into vibrant spaces for joy and play. I am extremely proud to have fulfilled this promise to our community.
