About Yolanda

Yolanda McCoy serves as Councilwoman for Wilmington's 6th District with a strong dedication to community service, backed by extensive experience in grassroots organizing and advocacy. Her human services and community outreach background highlights her commitment to improving the district's welfare. Councilwoman McCoy prioritizes building strong community ties and exemplifies servant leadership.

Previously, McCoy held the role of Community Outreach and Engagement Manager for several nonprofits in Wilmington, Delaware. In this capacity, she mobilized volunteers, coordinated community projects, and facilitated important discussions aimed at transparency and accountability. She worked closely with local residents to empower marginalized groups, valuing their diverse viewpoints and creative solutions.

Outside of her public service role, McCoy values her family, including her husband Avery McCoy of 24 years, and their two sons. Since her election to Wilmington City Council in 2016, she has played a significant role as Chair of the Public Safety Committee, Chair of the Education, Youth and Families Committee, and Vice-Chair of the Community Development and Urban Planning Committee. Additionally, she co-founded the Healthy Communities Subcommittee.

McCoy also dedicates her time to volunteering with Sisters Growing Strong Ministry and the MSK Community Center, demonstrating her ongoing commitment to community empowerment and service.
